01/30/12 Acutane is Crazy Stuff :O
I just got out of microbiology class, and we discussed acids and bases and macromolecules and blah blah blahhhhh. Then, all of a sudden, we got onto the topic of Acutane, the drug from hell used for acne, normally in teenagers. I've read up on Acutane before, but whenever we talk about it in class, I pay attention. That stuff is crazy. Like seriously. It can cause severe depression and suicidal thoughts in young people, especially guys. Imagine: you're a 14,15,or 16 year old guy with acne. You doctor says "Here ya go! Acutane! It's like a miracle drug!" You take it for awhile and realize, "Hey! This stuff really works!" But at what cost? Suicidal thoughts because of an acne drug??? Because the stupid FDA didn't realize the affects it had on young men, many of them have/had depression because of it. Many also committed suicide. A young person's prefrontal cortex isn't even fully developed by that time so their thought processes haven't hit that rational level yet. GRRRRR.
I don't know why this frustrates me so much. I'm very sensitive towards medication. That's probably the reason. Doctors should know better. The FDA should know better. Heck, they spend millions upon millions of dollars to test these drugs before they put them on the market. You would think they would be able to tell the adverse effects before giving it out to the masses.
Anyway, my microbio professor said that your own urine can work just as welll as acutane. It's safer too. Go figure. O.o
Yeah, I'm done with my monologue now. I just found all of that ridiculous.

01/24/12 Snuggled in my Blanket
Tonight is one of those nights where I could happily be snuggled up in my blanket, and watch a good movie. Comfortable pjs and all. Yes, sounds good to me! The only obstacle that is standing in my way is my homework that I need to have completed by tomorrow at 9a.m. Hmmm, I am contemplating on how I can get my way in this situation, but I have achieved nothing. Microbiology still has control of my present circumstances. This is unfortunate. Curse you, school. You have beaten me once more.
Lyrics that have been stuck in my head all day:
All of her days have gone soft and cloudy.
All of her dreams have gone dry.
All of her nights have gone sad and shady.
She's getting ready to fly.
Fly away. Fly away.
If anyone knows those lyrics then you 1) are amazing and I love you, 2) have proven to be just as much of a nerd/geek/dork as me, and 3) it's okay because I still love you. No, I shall not tell you what these lyrics are. If you don't know them off hand, then, well, that's okay. I forgive you. (No, I'm still not telling you what the lyrics are. If you are so curious, then let the all-knowing Google tell ya.
The end.

01/18/12 Disclaimer: My Microbio Professor was Talking About Questionable Stuff
I had my first class yesterday. It was my pharmacology class. A three hour night class once a week. I was easily the youngest in the class. The rest of the women (yeah, only two guys... bless their hearts) and most of them had established careers. I would say about two-thirds of the women were LVNs going to become RNs. Immediately upon entering the class, we jumped right in. We discussed the calculation math, and the drug cards that we would have to be doing. It was interesting stuff. I have six chapters due by Tuesday, but I'm not worried about it.
The microbiology class was, um, cool. Okay, straight up: I already established myself as not only the baby of the class, but the blond. Go figure. My teacher, Dr. Makukutu, is African. He said he was very proud of being African. He then goes on to speak figuratively (which I didn't catch onto), saying that Africans never get diseases. My eyes went like "O.o" and I was like "Hehehehe, what?" In MY head, I thought he was serious. The African and AIDs thingy popped in my head, but yeah, anyway, he kind of failed in the sarcasm department. He saw my confused expression and asked me to explain why I was so confused. I just looked at him like he was asking for my soul. Someone had to tell me "Oh, he was just speaking figuratively about his culture." I just nodded and said, " I missed the figurative part. Hehehe, yeah..... *slowly looks down and turns pink*" Everyone kind of giggled, and that was a running joke for the rest of the class period (three hours.)
Amazingly enough, that wasn't the most awkward part of the class. It was when he decided to bring up a discussion about... Wait. Okay, before I say he talked about, may I have the liberty to be completely frank? I don't want to offend anyone. Okay? Good? Good. He begins to discuss his research on "fecal transplanting" and how successful it was. Yes, what you think it is, it actually is. If that wasn't awkward enough (especially his description of it), he moves on to discuss the "SILENT EPIDEMIC." That, my friends, is the diseases transmitted through various methods due to one's *cough cough* sexual preferences and practices. In other words, STIs are easily transmitted through fecal matter when one conducts the act of anal intercourse. THE REASON I'm explaining this is because if you could only see the expression on everyone's face in the classroom when he went into detail about it. One girl even got a bit sick from the idea. I just sat there.... disgusted/embarrassed/slightly intrigued. As you can probably already imagine, it was one of the oddest three hours of my life. One day down. Four months to go.
*facepalm*

01/15/12
This past year has easily been one of the most inconsistent, volatile years of my life. That is saying a lot. I never know what to expect anymore. It's getting to the point where I'm almost afraid of what the next day will bring me. I don't understand. Maybe I should just go back to being the quiet, reserved Hillary. It would probably save me a lot of problems. I'm really done speaking my thoughts. All they do is cause problems.
Today was my last real weekend. Tomorrow I work and then I start school back on Tuesday. It's time to get back to life and being an "adult" again.

01/13/12
There are so many things I can ramble on about right now, but I'm going to try to keep my thoughts as focused as I possibly can. I'm somewhat frustrated so it's very easy for me to veer off mentally.
Eh, forget it. I just feel like punching something. Really hard.

01/11/12 It's All About the Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew Now
Amp Withdrawal Day One: I felt pretty good this morning. Went to two appointments today, came home, and took a nap. I woke up around 5:30p.m. and my head began to pound from the inside out. Dr. Pepper to the rescue! It has some kind of caffeine in it so it should help. *takes a sip*
I've been on somewhat of a writing rampage lately. The deepest thoughts of a quirky nerd. Oh, yes, because they are oh, so interesting. "The Memoirs of a Quirky Nerd" they shall be called when I'm gone from this world! I'll be like the next Emily Dickinson. A reclusive young woman afraid of the most irrational things who became famous after her death for her untitled poems. Except I'm not reclusive..... and I don't have any irrational fears (unless you call being afraid of snakes and enclosed water slides irrational.... okay, I can kind of see how the water slide one could be just a bit irrational, but I have my reasons for that fear. I'm slowly working on it.) Anywayyyyy, so yeah. Maybe I won't be the next Emily Dickinson of our time. In fact, I can say with all confidence that I won't be, but maybe I can write something worth reading after I'm dead. Because I can tell you now: no one will be reading anything that I write without my permission. Oh, and my journals are off-limits too. No one is allowed to even THINK about touching those. Hence, me thinking that anyone would be reading anything I write after I'm dead. See? I have this all planned out!
Random thought: I have been completely blown away by the beauty of the night sky this past week. If I have time, I go outside, lie on the back of my truck, and just stare at the sky. The moon last night especially was gorgeous. I love the stars. I love the moon. Mmhmm, I know. I'm a dork, but I dooooooooooooooo. It's so pretttttttttttttttttttttttttttttty.
Maybe I'll go stare at the sky tonight.

No more Amp for a month. One month. Due to my competitive nature, I took a bet that I could stop drinking Amp for one month. This is going to be quite a struggle (I've been drinking Amp since September of 2009. Yes.... I even know the month for when my addiction started. Don't judge.) I've taken a bet like this before where I couldn't drink Amp for two weeks. Somehow I managed to do it. I'm thinking because I like challenges so much that I should be able to do this. Lord...

01/06/12 Productiveness
I've gotten everything I need to get done, DONE. I'm finally sleeping again. I'm working out again. School starts in about two weeks. I've been reading a lot lately. That's taken much of my time. I'm beginning to review the past year's school information for my HESI. I have to get my Hep shots (a six month round) soon. Otherwise, I've gotten everything I need for right now. Thank goodness.
The only thing I ask right now is to stop thinking for a while.

01/04/12 Patience was Never my Virtue
Two major characteristics I have: 1) Stubbornness and 2) Lack of patience. I think the first could be a fault and a virtue. The second? Yeah, that's definitely a negative thing, at times. HOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER, it could be used as a positive thing.
Example:
I want to be a nurse.
I'm not patient. I want to be a nurse NOW.
I'm stubborn, and want my way. So I'm trying to become a nurse ASAP.
Hence, me working incredibly hard (due to my stubborn ambition to get my way driven by my
impatience.)
See how that works?
I don't know. It makes sense in my head. The more I want something, the harder I fight for it. My impatience and stubbornness are both blessings and curses. Blessing when it comes to school. The sooner I'm out of school, the sooner I can get to where I want to be in life (which definitely is not where I am in my present circumstances.)
It's funny though. In specific areas of my life, I can be incredibly patient. I think my stubbornness fuels that too.
I shouldn't be allowed to think at two in the morning.

01/02/12 Got Dissed for being a Virgo O.o
I don't believe in astrology. It's against my beliefs, but I was curious and I looked up what my sign stood for. The reason being is because someone asked me what my sign was, and when I told them, they were slightly disgusted. o.O I'm a virgo (virgin maiden) and I never gave any thought to it. So I just looked up what a virgo was and it's a bit scary. If I believed in that stuff, I'd take it seriously. It described me almost perfectly. Discrimination, analysis, calculation, courage, loyalty, pride, tidiness, warmth, kindliness, creativity, freedom-loving, materialism, stability, duality, intelligence were the words that describe a Virgo. Apparently I'm somewhat compatible with Pisces and Sagittariuseseses. *giggles* This is funny stuff. I shouldn't be dissed because of a sign that I don't even believe in.
This is fun to look at anyway :P

01/01/12 A Glimpse at my New Years Resolution List
New year :) A way for me to completely clean my slate and start fresh. I love making lists so it's time to share a little bit of my New Years resolution list (by the way, I"m not wearing my glasses right now so if I screw up in typing, that's why. I'm too lazy to fix to get my glasses right now.)
My New Years Resolutions (well, some of them.)
P.S. The bold font is so I can see the letters without my glasses more clearly. Just FYI.
1) Wearing scrubs in the fall. I made Phi Theta Kappa like I wanted last year, so this is my big goal this year.
2) Get new glasses. Still considering contacts.... the reason this is a goal is because I've been putting this off for two years now.
3) Maintain a good GPA in school.
4) I want to get back into working out. Slowly. That way, by summer, I'll be a bit more prepared.
5) Keep my car clean!!!! If you've seeen the inside of my car, you'd understand.
6) I'll put Splashtown on this list again for the third year in a row. Lord.
7) A road trip. I want to go somewhere.
8) Possibly write a song that I was starting, but just gave up on.
Yeah, I have more on my list, but that's basically it. The number one on my list is to be happy this year. I told myself I wouldn't never let myself go through what I went through last year. This year needs to be a happier one. I thiink that could happen. Knowing my ambitious nature, it will happen.
(I hope.)
